How to determine the percentage of fat in the body

Types of fat in the human body

What do you think, how many types of fat are actually adjacent to our body? In fact, there are five of them: subcutaneous, visceral, white, brown and beige. Fat performs certain functions in the body, so it is not only impossible to completely get rid of it, but also dangerous to health.

Subcutaneous fat

It is on it that the largest percentage of the total fat content in the body is 90%. It is located under the skin and protects the body from hypothermia, and is also our reserve in the event of a sudden hunger. That is why if you sharply jump off very hard diets, a reverse rollback occurs, and you can not only return to the previous weight, but also break your “record”: the body will decide that hungry times have come, and as soon as you start to eat normally, the internal ones will beginwork on the accumulation of “strategic” energy reserves.

And he also has a second name that all women do not like – cellulite. But from the point of view of medicine, this is an absolutely normal female feature that does not need treatment.

White fat

White fat performs a protective function, is an energy repository and produces hormones – adipippinectin and leptin. The first type of hormones is responsible for the sensitivity of the liver and muscles to insulin, the second – for the regulation of a sense of hunger and appetite.

Brown fat

This type of fat helps us spend energy. It is located in the kidneys, back, shoulders, neck. There are not many of him in the body of an adult as we would like. He is responsible for thermogenesis (warms the human body), which is why he helps us lose weight, as he spends the calories received by the body on our heating.

Unfortunately, increasing its quantity as quickly and easily as white fat will not work. Since it is formed in the process of hardening, and it is desirable to do this from childhood.

Beige fat

This is a rather rare type of fat cells. There is not much information about him, and it can be considered a transition form – beige fat can become both white and brown.

Visceral fat

This type of fat considers the most dangerous. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that it is formed in the abdominal cavity around the organs, liver, pancreas, heart, intestines. Visceral fat produces retinol-binding protein 4, which increases insulin resistance. This can lead to intolerance to glucose and diabetes of the second type.

In addition, its excess amount can lead to an increase in blood cholesterol and problems with the cardiovascular system.
