This fleeting meeting will forever change the life of a man -amphibian.
The science fiction novel by Alexander Belyaev dreamed of filming many directors, but the technical means of those years would not allow complex underwater shooting. Nevertheless, the talented operator Eduard Rozovsky coped with this task. To do this, he had to come up with a number of devices. Among them were airtight underwater boxes for cameras and a special mesh nozzle for a lens, “adding” living floating fish to the frame.

The picture of the joint production of the USSR and Bulgaria based on the well -known fairy tale of Hans Christian Andersen was released in 1976 and immediately won the audience sympathies. The film is not in everything exactly follows the plot of the original: for example, the witch does not take a voice from the mermaid, so the heroine has the ability to speak.

Before that, Michael Kiton, Chevy Chase, Dudley Moore, Bill Murray and John Travolta refused her. Hanks played in his usual soft, romantic and ironic manner. Immediately after the release of the film on the screens of the actor’s career, who until that moment was shot only in low -budget projects, went sharply to take off.
