How about traveling by car in Russia? Now this is a great time for this, besides, you can get to a car to places where there are fewer tourists. And also inexpensively, especially if you take friends with you.
1. Merchant ring

- Experience: about 640 km from Moscow and back.
- Route plan: From Moscow to go to Borovsk, then get to Kaluga and stop for an overnight stay. Then Przemysl, then – Kozelsk and another night. Then we pass Belev, Odoev, Net. Not far from these points, you can choose a country hotel. We arrive in Yasnaya Polyana, make a stop in Tula – and go back to the capital.
This is a wonderful route to small towns and picturesque villages of the Kaluga and Tula regions. On the way, you will admire not only old houses and beautiful churches, but also the landscapes of central Russia.
Separate pluses of the route are fairly short crossings (no more than two hours on the road) and a good quality of roads, especially in the Kaluga region. If you do not stop for a long time, all points can be traveled over the weekend, but we still advise you to extend the trip to five days and at least a few hours to spend in the beautiful estate of Leo Tolstoy. There you can visit one of the excursions where the guide will tell about the life of the writer, take a walk in the park and try the famous “Ankovsky” pie. In the museum, with the estate, exhibitions and other interesting events are regularly held – the schedule can be clarified on the official website.
2. Karelia

- Experience: about 2,500 km from Moscow and back.
- Route plan: From Moscow to St. Petersburg by car (7 hours on the road) or by train. If you choose the second option, in St. Petersburg you can rent a car. And then a long march awaits you: first 9 hours to Belozersk, then 7 hours to Petrozavodsk. But after you can slowly go around all local attractions and beauty.
Karelia is attracted to a huge number of Russian tourists this summer – and it is not surprising, there is really something to see here. We recommend starting acquaintance with the region from its capital, Petrozavodsk: spend at least a couple of days here. From here it is convenient to get to the island of Kizhi (2 hours by car to the village of the Great Lip, and from there on a water taxi). After Petrozavodsk, keep the way to Kondopog and inspect not only the city, but also its surroundings (Kivach waterfall and Onega Lake). And then visit one of the main attractions of the region – Ruskeala Mountain Park in a former marble career. From condopogy you can get here in 4 hours.
Spend the night in the neighboring sortay, and then start the way home. If you are going to St. Petersburg to hand over the rented car, get together in three and a half hours. And you can go to Moscow through Veliky Novgorod (7 hours) and stay in it for a day.
3. Volga

- Experience: about 2,370 km from Moscow and back.
- Route plan: Leave from Moscow and go to Vladimir (first stop), then to Nizhny Novgorod (stop for a day). Then according to the plan of Kazan – here you can spend 1-2 days depending on the desire. Next – Ulyanovsk and Samara. We offer to go back through Penza and Ryazan.
In saturation of excursions and attractions, this route will give a head start to a traditional gold ring: what is Nizhny Novgorod and Beauty -Kazan stand only! We advise you to stay in every city for at least one day in order to have time to slowly inspect all the most interesting and not get tired of the road too much. You can also make small stops on the way – for example, between Vladimir and Nizhny Novgorod to call in carpets, and on the way to Kazan to inspect Cheboksary.
Moving between cities occupy from 3 to 5 hours. The longest – from Penza to Ryazan, but also from Nizhny Novgorod to Kazan is not a short path, so choose a comfortable pace for you. If you do not rush anywhere, the trip will take about two weeks.
4. Krasnodar region

- Experience: about 3,300 km from Moscow and back.
- Route plan: The road from Moscow to Krasnodar will take about 16 hours by car, so it is better to go slowly and make a stop in Voronezh or Rostov -on -Don. And then you are waiting for a tour of the resorts of the Azov and Black Seas: the village of Golubitskaya, Tamani, Anapa and Gelendzhik.
We go to the sea! If there are two drivers in the car, then even a long way to Krasnodar does not seem difficult. Or on the road you can relax and get acquainted, for example, with Voronezh – but keep in mind that in the city you will probably want to stay for at least a day. 10 hours of journey will remain to Krasnodar.
And then you can choose the resorts to your taste. We recommend starting with the inspection of the Sea of Azov – first get to the village of Golubitskaya, from there to call in Kuchugurs and Taman. It is convenient to get to Anapa from Taman.
Do not forget to stay in Vityazevo along the way – the village is considered one of the most picturesque places on the Black Sea coast. There you can relax for a couple of days, sunbathe and drink – in Anapa and Gelendzhik this year a lot of tourists. You can return to Krasnodar through Adygeis. Highlight a couple of days to relax from such an active vacation and gain strength to the road home – and back to Moscow.
5. Altai, Chuysky tract

- Experience: about 1,800 km from Novosibirsk and back.
- Route plan: On the airplane, get to Novosibirsk, right at the Tolmachevo airport to rent a car and go on a trip to the picturesque places of the region, starting from Gorno -Altaysk.
The Chuysky tract is considered one of the most beautiful roads in Russia – besides, it is quite comfortable even for novice drivers. Almost the entire length of you are waiting for a good asphalt, marking, places for stopping and chipsters. However, to see all the attractions, many of which are located in the surrounding mountains, it is worth renting an SUV or crossover.
Start traveling from a long move to Gorno -Altaysk (6 hours). Then you are waiting for all the most interesting: near the city there are Tavdinsky caves, Seminsky pass, mountain damn finger and other local beauties. Be sure to allocate time to inspect the famous petroglyphs – some are located right next to the road. Admire the rivers and mountain landscapes. If desired, you can get to the very border with Mongolia. The study of attractions in relaxed mode will take about three days.
On the way back, take a little rest in the mountain resort of the “cuffs” near the Gorno -Altaysky – there is something to do there in winter and in the summer. And then return to Novosibirsk. If you do not seduce six hours on the road, make a stop in Novoaltaysk.
6. Baikal

- Experience: about 800 km from Irkutsk and back.
- Route plan: First you need to fly to Irkutsk, there you should rent a car and go to Listvyanka and Olkhon.

Highlight the first couple of days on vacation in the village of Listvyanka on the shores of Lake Baikal – there is everything for tourist comfort. And after through Irkutsk, go to the local pearl – Olkhon Island. In the summer it goes steam. Since the place is quite popular, there may be a queue at the crossing, so lay on the road about 6 hours.
Olkhon will probably want to stay longer – consider this when buying air tickets. Three or four days is enough to go around all the main beauties of the island: Cape, Lakes, Rocks. We recommend that you stop in the village of Khuzhir or the village of Haranians.

Kalmykia is an exotic corner of Russia, and it is not so difficult to get there from Moscow: only 2 hours of path by plane to Volgograd and 4 hours by car to Elista. We advise you to spend the first day in the hero city – to relax and inspect the main attractions. And already on the second day, go along the R221 highway to the capital of Kalmykia.
In Elista, spend at least two days. In the city, be sure to visit the golden monastery of the Buddha Shakyamuni with the Museum of the History of Buddhism and the older Buddhist temple of Syakusn -Sum.
