Instructions in case you do not hear the interlocutors or they are you.
Please note: the article suggests that your speakers or headphones and the microphone are working, and the sound is absent only in Zoom.
What to do if you do not hear interlocutors
1. Allow the connection with the sound
- Where it can work: in all versions Zoom.
If in the lower left corner the icon with headphones and arrow is displayed on the conference screen, then you have not allowed connection with audio. In this case, click on this icon, and then use the “enter into an audio conference from a computer”, “Calling using sound” or with a similar name – the formulations in different versions of Zoom are slightly different.
2. Check the loudspeaker
- Where it can work: in mobile applications zoom.
Perhaps you can’t hear the sound because you have a quiet (telephone) conversation mode. To switch to a loudspeaker, click on the corn in the upper left corner and check the audio. If it does not help, check the sound level using the physical volume button.
3. Check the speakers settings
- Where it can work: in desktop and web version of Zoom.
Make sure Zoom uses the correct sound output device. To do this, click on the arrow next to the microph1. If several devices are displayed in the speaker section, choose each of them in turn and check the audio.
4. Check the microphones of the interlocutors
- Where it can work: in all versions Zoom.
If the list of participants next to their names displays a crossed icon of the microphone, ask them to turn on the sound in the chat. To do this, the user needs to click on the microphone icon in the lower left corner on the conference screen. If, instead of a microphone, they see an icon with headphones, ask them to click on it, and then – on the “enter into an audio conference from a computer” or with a similar name on the “enter an audio conference”.

What to do if the interlocutors do not hear you

Click on the arrow to the right of the icon with a microphone and select “Sound Settings”. In the menu opened, check the volume. Then click on the name of the microphone and, if additional audio devices are displayed, in turn, make sure there is sound in each of them.
4. Check if Zoom has a resolution on the use of a microphone
- Where it can work: in all versions Zoom.
In Windows
Open the section “Parameters” → “Privacy” → “Microphone”. If the item “Allow classical applications to access to the microphone” is not active, turn it on.
In MacOS
Click on the Apple logo and go to the “System Settings” section → “Protection and Safety” → “Privacy” → “Microphone”. Make sure that the program next to Zoom has a duck.
In the browser
On the tab with the Zoom website, click on the icon in the form of a lock next to the page address. In the emerging site settings, select the Microphone item and provide permission. If you can’t open this menu, drive a request “How to provide permission to a microphone” into the search engine and

What to do if nothing helped
Restore Zoom. If the sound does not work, try to restart the device and reinstall the application. If this does not help, contact the official support service.
