Why are stores interested in payment for QR codes

It happens that in stores at the cash desk they are strongly asked to pay by QR codes. And even discounts sometimes give. It seems why?

The point is in money. When buyers pay with a card, the store gives an average of 1–2.5% of the amount of the acquiring for offline trading, and for online sales – up to 5%. When calculating the QR code, the commission is 0.4-0.7%. Even if the difference between, for example, 1% and 0.4% seems insignificant, with a large sales volume, these will already be amounts with several zeros.

So business payment by QR codes is simply profitable.

What are the pros and cons of payment for QR codes for the buyer

The advantages are obvious: these are discounts, if any, and the opportunity to pay a smartphone, as in the good old days.

The disadvantages are not so striking, although they are enough:

  • No cashback and bonuses. For banks, payment for a QR code is not purchased, but transfer. Accordingly, no rewards are supposed to. However, if for the calculation in this way they promise a discount that exceeds the cashback, the situation can be experienced.
  • Payment by QR code is longer. It’s not that she occupied the clock, but attach a card or smartphone in any case faster. With inexpensive purchases on the card, even the PIN code does not need to enter. So you go seconds. Although when compared with cash payment, QR codes can win in speed.
  • There is a probability of difficulties with a credit card. Most often, banks make pleasant conditions for credit cards for purchases. And for transfers and cash withdrawal, large commissions and increased percentage are introduced. Payment for a QR code is not purchased, with all the ensuing. However, here it is better to clarify information from representatives of the bank.
